Village Church desires to be a Gospel-shaped community of people who love Jesus, each other, and our city of Belfast as we join God in the renewal of all things.
Working alongside and with the welcome team, the Hospitality Team serves during our gatherings to prepare coffee and tea, makes sure our auditorium is set up, & helps tidy up after our gathering.
These people should be: reliable, servant-hearted, & willing to turn up early.
As far back as you want to go in the history of God’s people, one of the God-appointed duties & characterises of his people is ‘hospitality’ — which simply means the willingness to welcome people into your home who don’t ordinarily belong there’. We see this over and over in Scripture and in the New Testament the duty was reemphasised for the Christian community.
Pauls speaks about the marks of a true Christian in Romans 12 and he begins in vs 9-13, “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honour. Do no be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality” (literally to “pursue hospitality”). It’s a continuous action, something we’ll do for the rest of our lives.
The majority of our hospitality will be expressed in our actual homes, but we want to extend that to anytime our church family gathers together. It’s in light of this commandment and in the example of Jesus who welcomes and extends hospitality to us, that we want to be welcoming and hospitable to all who walk through our doors.
